Understanding Your Points: A Plain-English Guide
Most modern APAC vacation ownership programmes use a points currency instead of fixed weeks. Points give you flexibility — but they also have rules about booking windows, expiry, and conversions that significantly affect how useful they are in practice.
What your annual allocation means
Each year your membership account is credited with a set number of points. These points are your currency for making reservations. Different room types, resorts, seasons, and dates have different point costs. Your annual allocation determines how many nights and what categories of accommodation you can access.
How point costs are set
Point costs are set by the club and change based on demand, season, and room type. Peak season or high-demand resorts require more points per night. Check your club's online point schedule before assuming your allocation will cover a specific stay.
Annual credits and rolling balances
In most programmes, your annual credit is deposited on a fixed anniversary date. Points from the previous year typically carry forward for a limited period before expiring. The rules governing when old points expire and when new points arrive vary by programme — check your membership agreement.
What affects your effective value
Annual fee increases, reductions in the point schedule (requiring more points for the same stay), or limited availability at preferred resorts can all reduce the practical value of your ownership over time. Tracking your actual use rate against your annual fee gives you the most accurate picture of value.
