Borrowing Points: Using Next Year's Allocation

Borrowing allows you to use points from your next annual credit to cover a stay you want to make now — before those points would normally be deposited. It is useful when your current balance is insufficient, but it commits future entitlement and can affect your flexibility in the following year.

How borrowing works

You request to borrow a set number of points from your upcoming annual credit. Those points are applied to your current reservation immediately. When your new year begins and your credit is deposited, the borrowed amount is already deducted from it.

Fees and restrictions

Some programmes charge a borrowing fee per transaction or per point borrowed. Borrowed points may also carry restrictions — for example, they may only be usable at certain resorts or during certain periods. Confirm the full terms before borrowing.

Impact on the following year

Because borrowed points are deducted from next year's allocation, you will have a reduced balance when that year begins. If you also plan to travel next year, calculate whether the remaining balance will be sufficient before borrowing.

Borrowing vs banking combined

If you have already banked unused points from a previous year, consider using banked points first before borrowing against future credits. This preserves your future allocation and avoids any borrowing fees.
