Exit & Resale

Resale Value: What Your Ownership Is Worth

Vacation ownership products rarely retain their purchase price on the secondary market. In the APAC region, the resale market is thin and most listings sell for significantly less than purchase price — or are offered as free transfers where the seller covers costs. Understanding this reality helps you plan an exit accurately.

Why resale value is typically low

New vacation ownership inventory is actively marketed through expensive direct sales campaigns. A secondhand ownership competes against new sales, which typically come with financing options and promotional incentives that the resale market cannot match. This structural dynamic suppresses secondhand prices.

What APAC resale prices look like

For most APAC points-based programmes, the effective resale market price is near zero or negative (seller-paid transfer). Some specific products at popular resorts with strong points currency may attract modest prices. Researching active listings in owner forums and resale platforms gives a realistic picture of your specific product.

The true exit calculation

When considering resale, factor in: the likely selling price (often zero or minimal), any transfer fees the seller must cover, any outstanding finance balance that must be cleared, and the ongoing fees you will save by exiting. In many cases, completing a US$0 transfer or paying transfer costs is rational because it ends the ongoing fee obligation.

Listing your ownership

If you decide to list, do so on legitimate resale platforms and owner forums. Avoid paying upfront fees to resale agents who guarantee a sale price — the chances of recovering the listing fee are low. A free or low-cost listing and realistic pricing give you the best outcome.
