Buyback Programmes: What Operators Offer
A buyback programme is a club's offer to repurchase your ownership at a set price or formula under specific conditions. They are less common than surrender programmes and more restricted in who qualifies. Verify any buyback programme directly with the club before making decisions based on it.
What a buyback is
A buyback is an offer by the club or developer to repurchase your ownership interest, typically at a fraction of the original purchase price or at a formula tied to current market value. Not all clubs offer buybacks, and those that do usually apply significant eligibility conditions.
Common conditions
Buyback programmes typically require: full payment of all outstanding maintenance fees and charges, no outstanding finance balance, ownership held for a minimum period, and sometimes a minimum number of years without use. The price offered may be substantially below your original purchase price.
How to verify a buyback offer
If a club representative or third party tells you a buyback programme exists, ask for the written policy document directly from the club's official website or legal department. A programme that only exists verbally in a sales or exit conversation is not reliable.
Buyback vs surrender
A surrender extinguishes your obligations at low or no cash return. A buyback provides a cash return but requires meeting conditions and the price is usually modest. If both options are available, compare the financial difference against the conditions and timelines before deciding.
