Free Gift Vouchers: Understanding the Trade-Off
Gift vouchers, free nights, and travel credits are common incentives used to attract attendees to vacation ownership presentations. The benefits are usually genuine, but the conditions attached to receiving them matter as much as the face value.
How vouchers work
A gift voucher or travel credit is offered in exchange for attending a presentation of a minimum length and, in some cases, arriving as a couple. The voucher is typically issued only after you have satisfied the attendance requirement. Some programmes require you to complete a short survey or sit through a follow-up conversation before the voucher is released.
Common restrictions
Free travel vouchers frequently carry blackout dates, minimum stay requirements, booking window restrictions, or require separate payment of resort fees and taxes. Read the full voucher terms before accepting the promotion so you understand the realistic value.
Your obligations
Attending the presentation is the main obligation. You are never obligated to purchase. If you sign a receipt for a gift before the presentation, check whether receiving it creates any commitment — it should not, and any legitimate offer will confirm that.
Evaluating the value
Compare the voucher value against the time investment (travel, presentation length, follow-up) and any conditions attached. A three-night stay with heavy restrictions may have less practical value than a US$100 gift card with no conditions.
