What is a fly-buy?
A fly-buy (sometimes called a fly-and-buy) is a promotional package offered by vacation ownership clubs. You receive heavily discounted or fully funded travel to a resort in exchange for attending a sales presentation of a set minimum length — typically 90 minutes to three hours. The travel benefit is only released after you have completed the presentation.
What you are agreeing to
When you accept a fly-buy, you are agreeing to attend a presentation at a specific time during your stay. Missing, arriving late, or leaving early may void the travel benefit or require repayment. Some programmes have additional conditions, such as travelling as a couple or meeting minimum household income thresholds. Read the terms before you confirm.
At the presentation
Presentations are sales events. You will be shown the product, pricing and financing options by trained sales staff. You are not obligated to buy. However, high-pressure tactics are common in the industry — it can help to decide in advance that you will take time to research any offer before making a commitment, regardless of time-limited pricing claims.
Cooling-off rights
Most APAC jurisdictions give you a statutory cooling-off period after signing a vacation ownership contract — typically five to ten business days depending on the country. Check the exact period for the jurisdiction in which you sign. Any reputable operator will tell you this unprompted.
Questions to ask before you go
Confirm the exact presentation duration and what happens if you do not complete it. Ask whether the travel benefit is transferable if your dates change. Check whether you are under any obligation if you attend but do not buy. Get everything in writing before you travel.
